Centralised Asset Health Centre

Centralised Asset Health Centre – Nevada Gold Mines, USA, 2017–2025

Overview

Since 2017, MTS has supported Nevada Gold Mines in building and running a centralised Asset Health Centre (AHC) for its large surface and underground gold operations. The aim was to turn a constant stream of machine health data from multiple OEM systems into consistent, prioritised maintenance decisions.

The Challenge

The operation was generating tens of thousands of machine health events every day across multiple OEM systems. With that much volume, it was hard to tell which events needed action and which were noise. Triage relied heavily on the experience of individual analysts, so prioritisation was hard to keep consistent from one analyst or shift to the next.

Standardised Data Foundation

MTS first made the data consistent across systems. The same machine might appear as "785C", "Cat 785C" or "CAT785C" depending on the source. Standardising these into one machine class meant events from every OEM system could be compared and analysed together.

The AHC Cookbook and Events Triage Board

Within the Asset Health Centre, MTS developed the Events Triage Board:

  • Common view: events from multiple OEM systems are brought into a single view.

  • Configurable rules: event data runs through the AHC Cookbook, where frequency and duration rules flag significant patterns rather than single alarms.

  • Direct investigation: each flag links straight to investigation tools, so analysts can move from a flagged pattern to the evidence behind it.

Results

The site now has a consistent, repeatable triage process that is less dependent on individual analyst experience. The asset health team concentrates on the events that drive maintenance decisions rather than the volume of alarms. That supports proactive maintenance across a large mixed fleet.

MTS delivered advanced productivity tools enabling a centralised group of condition intelligence analysts to perform timely analysis of mobile equipment health data from multiple sites. The objective was to prevent early equipment failures, extend component life, and improve the overall reliability of the mining fleet management processes. The project involved significant data warehousing, BI customisation, and user training, supporting the client’s broader digital transformation in mining. Through our expertise in operational analytics, we enhanced decision-making and improved equipment reliability across their global underground operations.
